Description of the audiobook The Roots of the Mountains:

Roots of the Mountains is the second in a planned three-part historical novel series set in a pre-medieval Germanic world (a third is in the works). It followed the theme of "Wolf House," released in the same year and entered the later generations. A loose alliance of Dusky Men, Woodlanders, and Shepherds lived peacefully in the Burgdale Valley for so long that they barely remembered the war disturbed by the Sons of Wolf and the invading Dusky Men.

Morris' exploration of the social and economic organization of this fictional pre-medieval world reflects his socialism. The image of the obscurantist (infertile with Germanic tribes and slaughtered without compassion) reflected the racial politics of his day.

Two of Morris's long-neglected Germanic novels were rediscovered when they were published in volumes sixteen and nineteen at the prestigious Newcastle Library of Forgotten Fantasy. - Summary by Phil Benson
