In this early example of the modern fantasy genre, Hallblithe, a warrior of the Crow family, goes in search of the pirates who have taken his unfaithful virgin hostage. Hallblithe is kidnapped and sails to Ransom Island accompanied by the giant Puny Fox.
To continue his search for his beloved, he went deep into the land of the Shining Plains, rejecting the offer of eternal youth and the hand of the king's daughter. Tales of the Glittering Plain was first published in the British Illustrated Magazine in 1890 and reissued in 1973 as the first volume at the famous Forgotten Fantasy Library in Newcastle.
