Description of the audiobook Black Beauty (version 3 Dramatic Reading):

Black Beauty is a fictional autobiographical memoir with many stories told by one horse, both cruel and kind. The cover of the first edition said it was "translated from the original Equine by Anna Sewell." Published in 1877, Sewell lived to see her first and only novel become an instant bestseller and promote better treatment of many mistreated animals.

Initially intended for those who work with horses, it quickly became a children's classic. While ostensibly teaching animal welfare, it also contains allegorical lessons on how to treat people with kindness, compassion, and respect. Told in the first person, each mini-chapter follows an event in Black Beauty's life, and Sewell's detailed observations and extensive descriptions of horse behavior add realism to the novel.
